Sherri Stoyka, CD(DONA), LCCE

Before finding the amazing world of doula work, I was a high school English literature and composition teacher. I love education and believe that knowledge truly IS power. So I married my love of education to my passion for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and resolved to be the very best doula I could be!

My own pregnancy and birth experiences, including a 40-week stillbirth, help shape my approach to doula support. There is no single "right way" to give birth, but being aware of and informed about your options are non-negotiable. I know what it's like to labor unmedicated when doubt starts to creep in; I know all about asking for an epidural at 8 cm; I know how to utilize position changes for pushing out a baby who is face up in the pelvis; I'm intimately familiar with giving birth after a devastating loss; I know how breastfeeding challenges attempt to steal your postpartum joy; and I know what it means to go back to work after a 12-week maternity leave. You might be scared, but I am not. I get you, momma, and I've got you!

As for the highlight reel about me: I'm a DONA certified doula and a Lamaze certified childbirth educator. My husband Todd is my absolute biggest fan and cheerleader, and we have seven adult children, two daughters-in-law, and two of the most adorable granddaughters you will ever see!

"At my 34 week midwife visit, I found out our baby was breech. I pulled out all the stops with Spinning Babies and faithfully did the exercises every day, but at 36 weeks, our baby boy was still stubbornly breech. Sherri was so calm and asked me if I wanted a surgical birth or a vaginal birth. When I said I wanted a vaginal birth, she told me to ask my midwife about scheduling an ECV at 37 weeks to try to turn the baby. My midwife agreed and showed up at the appointment, and Sherri literally held my hand through the entire process. The doctor and midwife successfully turned my baby boy, and he came fast and furiously into our world at 41 weeks."
